On May 9, the subbotnik (voluntary labor day) will be held in the educational institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education.

Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, has signed telephonogram addressed to district (city) education departments (agencies) and general education institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education in order to organize subbotniks in educational institutions in connection with the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism and the 92nd birth anniversary of the founder of the independent Azerbaijan, national leader Heydar Aliyev. It is planned to carry out landscaping, greenery, cleaning works in the territory of educational institutions on subbotniks to be held with the participation of teachers, students and technical staff.

Statistics on the calls received by Switchboard service, Call Center (“Hot line” service, phone:146) of The Ministry of Education and also the services rendered to the citizens for April, 2015 in Citizens Reception Center has been announced.

According to statistics, 7427 calls (9 times more than relevant period of 2013, 2 times more than relevant period of 2014) have been received by Call Center and approximately 3300 calls to Switchboard service. 4279 citizens have served in Citizens Reception Center. Most of the appeals (most of the appeals were connected with inquiry) received by Call Center and Reception Center have been responded immediately and settled operatively. According to their inquiries, 524 citizens have been registered for reception of relevant authorities of The Ministry of Education in electronic form. 1267 documents (713 letters, 442 petitions, 112 other documents) have been received and registered in Reception Center. Most of appeals include the issues like recognition of educational documents (diplomas), admission of children to first grade of general education schools, displacement of students in general education institutions, rehabilitation and resettlement of students in higher education institutions, recruitment of teachers. It should be noted that, Call Center received the appeals mostly on Wednesday (1664 calls) and Thursday (1637 calls) from 10:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 15:30 over last month. Citizens Reception Center received the appeals mostly on Wednesday (962 appeals) and Tuesday (853 appeals) from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00.

The zonal competitions, dedicated to the promotion of 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Games, among schoolchildren are continued.

Within the framework of the massive sporting events, organized by the Ministry of Education, the zonal basketball competition was held in Ismayilli district. The teams from 9 districts competed for the first place in the zonal competition, held at Ismayilli Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Sheki, Oguz and Zagatala districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. Another sporting event was held at Ganja Olympic Sports Complex. The zonal judo competition was held in Ganja. 150 judokas from Samukh, Aghdam, Goranboy, Yevlakh, Barda, Shamkir and Ganja competed in 7 weight categories in the competition. The judo teams of Ganja, Yevlakh and Shamkir won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The zonal boxing competition was held in Balakan. The boxers from Balakan, Zagatala, Sheki, Agdash, Gabala and Goychay competed in the competition, held at Balakan Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Balakan, Sheki and Zagatala won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The zonal table tennis competitions were held in Salyan district. More than 100 athletes competed in the competition, held at Salyan Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Salyan, Lankaran and Masalli districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively among boys in team score. The team of Salyan district took 1st and 2nd places, the team of Masalli district took 3rd place among girls in team score. The zonal beach soccer competition was launched in Lankaran city. The teams of 6 regions competed in the competition, organized at the playground of "Caucasus" hotel. According to the results of the competition, the teams of Lankaran, Astara and Jalilabad regions won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competitions. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education. It should be noted that these competitions are held in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, said that special attention is paid to issues like the health protection of learners, the development of their talent and creative skills in improving the quality of education and achieving successful results in this area in the "National Strategy for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan", defining the main strategic directions in the establishment of modern educational system in the country. According to the minister, the use of educational technologies focusing on physically healthy growth of children and young people, the development of their creativity, the creation of a favorable environment for the effective organization of leisure time, the protection of their physical and psychological health during the study period in out-of-school educational institutions is very important from this point of view. Speaking about the success of out-of-school educational institutions operating under the Ministry of Education, the Minister noted that the graduates of sports and chess schools won 1604 medals in national competitions, 390 medals (116 gold, 118 silver and 156 bronze) in international competitions and 1994 medals in general last year. Attracting attention the massive sporting events, organized by the Ministry of Education within the framework of the agitation campaign, conducted on the eve of the first European Games in our country, Mikayil Jabbarov mentioned that these competitions were held in order to promote 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the first European Games, among schoolchildren, to direct pupils to a healthy lifestyle and to increase the role of physical education and sports in the patriotic upbringing of the pupils. It is no coincidence that 24 of athletes, who will represent our country at the First European Games, are the graduates of children and youth sports schools operating under the Ministry of Education and the coach-teachers working in these schools. They will compete in 7 sports (athletics, acrobatic gymnastics, badminton, fencing, sambo, freestyle wrestling, table tennis). Stressing that the Olympic movement formed in the years of independence, the Minister of Education noted that the state policy, contributing to the development of sports, of national leader Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev and the scope of the Olympic movement is expanding. The Minister wished success to the athletes who will take part in the first European Games, from sports schools operating under the Ministry of Education and said that decent performance is to obtain better results than previous. The athletes and coaches, who will take part in the first European Games, expressed their gratitude for meeting and attention they received and said that the factor of native walls would encourage them to represent our country worthily at the upcoming sporting events. In the end, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, presented wristwatch to athletes and coaches, who will take part in the first European Games, from sports schools operating under the Ministry of Education, and he was photographed with them.

On May 4, the media tour was organized to "Ankara School" school-lyceum and Baku European lyceum at the initiative of the Ministry of Education.

Journalists got acquainted with modern laboratory equipment presented to general education schools and observed the physics, chemistry and biology lessons, held with the help of these equipments, during the media tour, attended by 10 representatives of mass media. It should be noted that various equipments were distributed to 50 schools by the Ministry of Education in order to upgrade existing laboratories in general education schools. 2 mobile carts, 16 “Biochem” and “Physio” Lab discs, 2 tablets were distributed to these schools. 31 of them were distributed to schools and lyceums in Baku, 9 of them were distributed to schools and lyceums in Sumgait, Absheron, Goygol, Mingachevir and Ganja. In addition, the 5-day trainings were organized by local instructors for the biology, chemistry and physics teachers in these schools since April 20. The trainings are planned to be completed by the end of May. Students had an opportunity to convert their theoretical knowledge into real observations with the help of these devices called “BioChem” and “PhysioGuide”. In order to ensure the use of these devices at the highest level, "Edumedia-Azerbaijan" company invited highly qualified specialists of "Globisens" company to Azerbaijan and organized a 3-day training of trainers for a teaching staff consisting of 25 people. During the trainings, teachers became acquainted with the Labdisc device and the software, and learned how to use them. Also, teachers conducted a series of experiments through this device and software. Journalists observed the advantages of new equipment and the experiments, conducted by students.

The next zonal competition was held in Masalli region within the framework of the massive sporting events, dedicated to the promotion of 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Games among schoolchildren.

The teams of 6 regions competed for the first place in the zonal wrestling competition, held at Masalli Olympic Sports Complex, among schoolchildren. About 100 athletes joined the fight for the title of winner in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. The teams of Masalli, Lankaran and Astara regions won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in freestyle wrestling in team score. The teams of Lankaran, Masalli and Astara regions took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in Greco-Roman wrestling in team score. Another sporting event was held at Regional Taekwondo Center in Masalli. About 100 taekwondo players (boys and girls), representing Masalli, Lankaran, Astara, Lerik, Jalilabad and Bilasuvar regions, competed in this competition. The teams of Masalli, Lankaran and Lerik regions won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competitions. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education.

On May 5, the awarding ceremony of the winners of essay competition, organized on the occasion of the 92th birth anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, was held in "Gulistan" palace.

At first, the participants of the ceremony visited the grave of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, laid a wreath and fresh flowers at the monument. Then the participants laid flowers on the grave of academician Zarifa Aliyeva. The essay competition, organized among VIII-XI grade students of general education schools, students of primary vocational educational institutions and students of specialized secondary schools, was held by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the New Azerbaijan Party, the Republican Committee of the Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Employees for 9 years. Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party, Elchin Afandiyev, Deputy Prime Minister, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, Elmir Velizade, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Ilgar Mustafayev, the representative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Sattar Mehbaliyev, the chairman of the Republican Committee of the Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Employees, Members of Parliament, heads of educational institutions, well-known intellectuals, teachers and students attended the awarding ceremony of winners. Opening the event with introductory remarks, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, said that this competition plays an important role in describing their thoughts and feelings of pupils and students about the national leader in written form and in the formation of their writing ability. The Minister also mentioned that the competition, covering all regions of our country, reflects the different fields of activity of the national leader. Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Prime Minister and deputy chairman of New Azerbaijan Party, underlined the importance of the competition. Emphasizing the importance of studying the rich heritage and ideas of national leader Heydar Aliyev by the younger generation, Deputy Prime Minister noted that such measures have a positive impact on the formation of students` thinking and views about statehood. A.Ahmadov highly appreciated the annual growth in the number of participants. In their speech, Sattar Mehbaliyev, the chairman of the Republican Committee of the Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Employees, Elmir Velizade, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Ilgar Mustafayev, the representative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, congratulated the participants of the competition. 16 people were awarded first place, 19 people were awarded second place and 22 people were awarded third place among the participants of the Republican stage. 35 people, taking fourth (encouraging) place, were awarded with diplomas. The essays of 92 people, awarded I-IV places, were published in the book named "Heydar Aliyev in the eyes of schoolchildren". The diplomas, awards and valuable gifts were presented to the winners of competition. It should be noted that the competition, covering all regions of our country, was attended by more than 15 thousand students in the district (city) stage.

The 32nd Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO 2015) was held in Athens, Greece, from 3rd of May to 8th of May 2015.

Azerbaijani schoolchildren participated at the Olympiad, attended by 130 pupils from 21 different countries, including England, Italy, Iran, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and others. 3 pupils among Azerbaijani schoolchildren won a bronze medal and one of them took the stimulating place in mathematics at the Olympiad. Thus, Mohammad Shirinov, 10th grade student from Baku, Ismat Agayev, 11th grade student from Guba, and Tahir Nadirov, 10th grade student from Guba, were awarded the bronze medal, Mirali Ahmadli, 9th grade student from Ganja, was awarded the incentive certificate at the Olympiad. According to information provided by the team leader Fuad Garayev, the Organizing Committee of the Olympiad praised the performance of our students and expressed congratulations and kind words, addressed to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It should be noted that students-candidates, who will participate in the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad in the second half of May, will be selected among the distinguished students in the final stage of the Republican subject Olympiads and training camp began with candidate team in May and June.
