Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov meets with Gazi University delegation

Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov met with a delegation led by head of the department of arts at Gazi University Alev Cakmakoglu Kuru. The deputy minister hailed excellent friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, stressing the importance of strengthening this relationship. Firudin Gurbanov thanked Alev Kuru for organizing “Cultural genocide committed by Armenians from Anadolu to the Caucasus” conference and “Khojaly: Unheard cry” exhibition at Gazi University and Azerbaijan State Culture and Arts University on the centenary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, for continuously conducting awareness-raising campaigns in Turkey and other countries, and for donating the works showcased at the exhibition to the Republic of Azerbaijan. Alev Cakmakoglu Kuru described Azerbaijan-Turkey friendly relations as indestructible. He thanked the Ministry of Education and Azerbaijan State Culture and Arts University for organizing the visit, and for awarding him honorary professorship. They then exchanged keepsakes. During their stay in Azerbaijan, the Turkish delegation visited Heydar Aliyev Center, Guba genocide Memorial Complex, Museum of History and Local Lore, a carpet-weaving shop and several historic sites.

Minister of Education meets with Clarivate Analytics executive director

Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov met with Global Head of Emerging Markets at Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters) Viji Krishnan. They discussed cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Clarivate Analytics, the world`s largest electronic and analytics database, including accomplishments made since the start of this collaboration in 2015. They also exchanged views over cooperation development prospects.

12th Azerbaijan International Education Exhibition “Education-2018” kicks off in Baku

The 12th Azerbaijan International Education Exhibition “Education 2018” has opened at Baku Expo Center. Organized by Caspian Event Organizers (CEO) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the exhibition is held under the motto “Invest in the Future of the Children”. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by heads of higher and secondary education institutions, representatives of education services providers. Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov said this year the exhibition brings together 135 educational institutions from 12 countries representing more than 90 different faculties. Bayramov mentioned that over the past 5 years since the signing of the "State Strategy for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan" by President Ilham Aliyev, which provides a strategic road map for the development of education in the country, important documents have been adopted and projects implemented in various sectors of education. In his remarks, Regional Director of Caspian Event Organizers Edward Stroon described the education exhibition as a great opportunity for visitors to choose an educational institution they want to study at. Compared with previous editions of the exhibition, the Ministry of Education`s stands cover a larger space this year, featuring "SABAH Groups", "Maarifchi” Student Loan Fund, "Healthy Education ̶ Healthy Nation", "A pupil`s friend”, “Modular schools”, "Olympic Training Center", “Information and Communication Technologies in Education”, “Preschool Learning”, “Tahsil” Republican Sport Center, “Ichari Shahar Traditional Art Center”, “State Agency for Vocational Education”, “Children-Youth Development Center " and “Media Center – Education TV”. Visitors will have the opportunity to listen to lectures and startup stories. As part of the exhibition’s business programme, there will be B2B meetings between parents and exhibitors, as well as participants and companies engaged in study abroad. Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov meets with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education

On October 5, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov met with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini as part of his visit to France to attend a symposium under the theme “Developing Human Capital, Building a Better Future” on Baku’s bid to host World Expo 2025. The minister highlighted the reforms carried out in recent years under the “State Strategy for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, which was approved by the President. The minister hailed First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva`s role in building dynamic relations between Azerbaijan and UNESCO. They noted the development of Azerbaijan-UNESCO relations in the field of education and discussed cooperation prospects.  

Symposium on Baku’s bid to host World Expo 2025 held in Paris

A symposium under the theme “Developing Human Capital, Building a Better Future” on Baku’s bid to host World Expo 2025 has been held in Paris. The event heard speeches from the Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Vicente Lossertales, Assistant to the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the BIE Elchin Amirbayov, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Sahil Babayev, international expert on human capital Peter Fisk, and member of the working group on Baku’s bid for World Expo 2025 Maryam Gafarzade. In his opening remarks, assistant to the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Elchin Amirbayov highlighted the role of human capital in ensuring development of Azerbaijan. He noted that Azerbaijan has become a platform of global dialogue, and hosted a number of international events. Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions Vicente Lossertales hailed the global importance of the theme of Baku Expo 2025. Minister of education attends classes under “digital skills” pilot project

On September 28, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov attended classes held under “Digital skills” pilot project in 5th-6th grades at the city secondary school No 4 as part of his visit to Ganja. Project manager Fakhri Gurbanov informed the minister of the preparations held in six schools in the city of Ganja under the project ahead of the new academic year. He said that 24 informatics teachers give new content-based lessons to a total of 2,200 pupils in 76 classes in the city of Ganja starting from this academic year. These teachers attended proficiency improvement trainings organized by the Institute for Professional Development of Education Workers. ICT infrastructure was improved at the schools in order to ensure successful application of the digital system. This included the creation of 21 new computer rooms, which are provided with 300 laptops, projectors, interactive whiteboards and high-speed internet connection. Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov hailed measures taken under “Digital skills” pilot project. The minister said the project aims to develop children`s algorithmic thinking, logic and project management skills and teach them the basics of programming. He said the project will help pupils master technologies, digital skills and programming through practice.   Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted successful results of the projects and reforms implemented past academic year. The minister viewed classrooms where the project is implemented, attended classes and spoke with teachers and pupils. “Digital skills” pilot project is being implemented in partnership with Algoritmika education company producing information technology systems and digital skills teaching software. Developed by professional methodologists and teachers using the world`s leading innovative methodology, the program features the best experiences. It is based on the principles of individual training, theoretical and applied approach, inter-disciplinary connection and motivation. The project aims to increase children`s computer literacy through improving the teaching of informatics, and boosting their interest in high-technology occupations. In the 2017-2018 academic year the project was applied in 45 schools in Baku, involving 6,500 pupils. This academic year the projects involves 26,000 pupils in 71 schools in the cities of Baku and Ganja.

"Support to strengthening the higher education system in Azerbaijan" twinning project launched

"Support to strengthening the higher education system in Azerbaijan" twinning project was launched at a conference organized by the Ministry of Education on September 25. The conference aimed to increase awareness of higher education institutions, other interested parties and public of the essence and expected results of the two-year project funded by the European Union. Participants in the event included Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, ambassadors of European countries to Azerbaijan, heads of higher education institutions and experts involved in the project. Opening the conference, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov said that taking into account global education trends and challenges, Azerbaijan attaches special importance to properly assessing the role of education in developing human capital and to taking continuous measures in this regard. “From this point of view, the “State Program for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, which was approved by President Ilham Aliyev in 2013, aims to build a technology-based education system that will feature highly-qualified educators and be one of the bests in the world in terms of quality. This conceptual document defines priorities of our national education and key activity areas in the field of education. It provides for the creation of equal and quality education opportunities for everyone." The minister said that great strides have been made recently, which included introduction of a new approach and methodologies in developing highly-qualified specialists, expansion of autonomy of higher education institutions, improvement of student admission rules, creation of a competitive scholarship system, establishment of quality assurance centers at universities, increasing effectiveness of graduate career centers and improvement of academic results at higher education institutions. Deputy chief of staff of the Ministry of Education Yagub Piriyev said the project was launched this April. "Several events have already been held and missions consisting of experts from three partner countries have been organized under the first component of the project. Broad discussions were held at the Ministry of Education and higher education institutions, workshops on relevant topics were organized as part of the visits of the experts to Baku." Acting Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation Alexandra Nerisanu, Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Valdas Lastauskas, Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Juris Maklakovs, the project leader on behalf of the European Union Bruno Curvale hailed cooperation and highlighted the project`s contribution to higher education. The project leader on behalf of Azerbaijan, deputy head of the Department of Science, Higher and Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education Shahin Bayramov, the project leader on behalf of Lithuania Giedrius Viliunas, the project leader on behalf of Latvia Baiba Ramina, Resident Twinning Coordinator Liza Baydanova provided an insight into what has been and will be done under the project. Implemented by a consortium consisting of the Ministry of Education, France, Lithuania and Latvia, the project is a follow-up to "Support to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan for further adherence of the higher education system to the European Higher Education Area" twinning project (2015-2017). The project aims to further develop Azerbaijan's higher education system through aligning it with a competence-based education approach, a student-centered system and learning outcomes approach.

Minister of education meets with Finnish ambassador

Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov met with Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to the Republic of Azerbaijan Arja Makkonen on September 21. They discussed the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-Finland relations in the field of education.

Agricultural module textbooks launched

Seven module textbooks for “Fruit specialist” and “Vegetable specialist” occupations were launched on September 11. The textbooks were prepared under “Development of New Occupations in Agricultural Vocational Education” project of the British Council, co-funded by BP and its partners. Participants in the event included Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, Ambassador of the United Kingdom Carole Crofts, BP Regional President Gary Jones, British Council Azerbaijan Director Summer Xia, employees of the State Agency for Vocational Education and project representatives. Addressing the event, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov said vocational education has been set as one of the key priorities in Azerbaijan. He highlighted the importance of the area-related reforms and projects. The minister said that the successful implementation of the Strategic Roadmap for the Development of Vocational Education and Training, adoption of the Law “On Vocational Education” opened new opportunities for developing vocational education. Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted positive results of cooperation with BP and British Council in the field of vocational education, expressing his confidence that these relations will be maintained.  Other speakers highlighted projects implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education, and said the module textbooks have a role to play in improving the content and quality of vocational education. A total of 19 textbooks were prepared under “Development of New Occupations in Agricultural Vocational Education” project, which was launched in 2016.

Deputy Minister of Education Mahabbat Valiyeva met with UNICEF education adviser for “Enhancing quality inclusive education for children with disabilities in Azerbaijan” project Leyla Hasanova and international expert for the project Peter Grimes on September 7. They discussed the issues to be implemented under the two-year project.
