The spring examination session has started
On June 8, the spring examination session for students studying at higher and secondary special education institutions has started. The exams were organized online in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. Students who incur academic debt during the current exam session will be eligible to retake the exam once in each subject. The students will also be able to take a re-examination in a maximum of two subjects (once per subject) on which academic debt has been incurred in previous semesters. No payment is required for the re-examination. Students who do not feel ready for the spring exam session may refuse to attend. Free summary lectures will be organized for these students in August-September (for this, students will have to apply to the educational institution where they are study). The student can apply to the educational institution where he/she is studying and participate in the 4-week counseling hours. Guidance on the key topics will be provided during the consultation hours. From the end of August to September 15, these students will have a chance to take the exam again. In addition, more than 40,000 students enrolled in the graduation year were exempted from the state exam (based on previous academic indicators). It should be noted that the Ministry of Education will directly monitor this spring exam session is conducted fairly, and all complaints will be considered and resolved operatively, taking into account the difficulties appeared to all due to the existing conditions. The millionth “Virtual School” user
The 1,000,000th user of the "Virtual School" launched by the Ministry of Education has been successfully registered. This user is Hikmet Guluzadeh, a 2nd-grade student at Kalbajar district secondary school No. 56. Today, the Virtual School project covers 935,000 students and 89,000 teachers across the country. To date, 1.5 million lessons have been taught through the portal, 1.3 million lesson materials have been distributed in virtual classrooms, and more than 100,000 assignments have been given to students. It should be noted that the aim of the "Virtual School" portal, launched on April 2 with organizational support from the Ministry of Education, is to ensure the interactivity of TV lessons broadcast throughout the country and to provide distance learning opportunities. Everyday video and audio lessons are held on the portal the opportunities of which are expanded, TV lessons are watched, e-learning resources of the Ministry of Education are used, pedagogical councils with school administration and teachers are held in special groups, meetings with parents are held, weekly assignments are performed by students, online seminars and courses are organized for teachers, students and parents. Every weekend, live meetings are held on the portal, where successful samples of lessons conducted by teachers are presented and additional teaching opportunities of the portal are discussed. Regular meetings are also held with school principals and their deputies where the organization of the project's teaching process, education management and opportunities for the professional development of educators are discussed. To date, the Ministry of Education has conducted online training for about 16,000 teachers to ensure the effective use of the portal. At present, online courses on robot technologies, programming and engineering have been launched for students. This is already for the seventh successive week, in order to increase healthy competition among students and test the knowledge learned, a "Virtual Excellence" knowledge contest is held. The first 10 students who answered correctly the test tasks presented on the portal earlier than others are announced as the winners of the week.

Video conference of the Ministers of Education of ISESCO member states
Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov took part in a video conference of Education Ministers of ISESCO member states. ISESCO Secretary-General Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, Ministers of Education of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco and other countries, UNESCO Deputy Secretary-General for Education Affairs Stefania Ciannini, Director for Education and Skills of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Andreas Schleicher also participated in the video conference. The main topic of the video conference was the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education and the adaptation of the education system to the current reality. In his speech, Jeyhun Bayramov informed the participants of the video conference about the steps taken to ensure a continuousness of education in our country during the pandemic. The Minister spoke about the successful results of the "Virtual School" project, the largest online platform in the country, created in a short time to ensure the transition to distance education, and said that teachers are involved in training to take full advantage of this platform. The Minister of Education noted that as part of other steps taken by the ministry, TV lessons were launched on March 11. Lessons covering 10 subjects for all grades are broadcast 5 times a week on 2 TV channels of the country. The TV lessons are then posted for free use on the video.edu.az portal of the Ministry of Education. During the conference, it was emphasized that the Azerbaijani state pays tuition fees for about 22,000 students who are members of socially vulnerable families. Noting that the Ministry of Education attaches great importance to cooperation with ISESCO in the field of education, Jeyhun Bayramov reminded the participants of the video conference that the Republic of Azerbaijan has allocated a total of 40 educational grants for citizens of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. As a result of the video conference, ISESCO launched the Comprehensive Humanitarian Coalition initiative, and the Azerbaijani side expressed support for the initiative. Minister discusses innovations in education system with heads of “Microsoft” corporation and “CISCO Systems” company
The Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a video conference with Vice President of Microsoft corporation Anthony Salcito and the corporation's regional representatives for Europe. During the video conference, the successful results of the “Virtual School” project - the largest online platform in the country, which was created in a short time in Azerbaijan, the expansion of the project uniting more than 900,000 teachers and students, training of teachers to take full advantage of this platform was discussed. At the same time, the integration of other software and services of the Ministry of Education into the online portal, as well as the ability to monitor and analyze all the main processes in the virtual learning space from a single portal was also discussed. The Minister of Education also held a video conference with vice president of “Cisco Systems” company Guy Diedrich and the company's regional managers. During the video conference, the implementation status of the “Connected School” pilot project implemented by “Cisco Systems” company at Baku secondary school No. 46, provision of the school with ICT equipment and modern technologies applied in the field of education, organization of trainings for students, teachers and administrative-management staff was discussed. It was noted that within the framework of cooperation the “Cisco Networking Academy” was established at the Baku State Vocational Training Center for Industry and Innovations. The academy will have a cyber security training center. The center will be provided with hardware and software, and “Cisco” content will be integrated into the curriculum. Besides, modern “Cisco” technologies will also be demonstrated at the new Innovation Centre established by the Ministry of Education to study the application of innovative educational solutions and technologies in the country's education system, as well as to create opportunities for professional development and visual application for teachers.

Two Azerbaijani universities in the World University Rankings
“The Times Higher Education” (THE) is one of the world's most prestigious ranking agencies. It has announced “The University Impact Rankings 2020” table that defines the world’s best universities for their social and economic contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in 2020. Two Azerbaijani higher education institutions are also included in this ranking, which assess the activity of world universities against the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Azerbaijan State University of Economics and Khazar University are ranked 601+. It should be mentioned that the second edition of "Times Higher Education" (THE) includes 766 universities from 85 countries of the world. The list is headed by the University of Auckland in New Zealand for the second year. The next three places are occupied by Australian universities: the University of Sydney, the University of West Sydney and the University of La Trobe. Japan is represented by 63 universities, Russia by 47 and Turkey by 37 in the ranking. The ranking is dedicated to assessing the impact of universities on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, formed by the United Nations until 2030. 3 medals from the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad
The IX European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) took place as a purely virtual event because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Zahra Bayramli, 11th grade student of the Physics, Mathematics and Informatics Lyceum under the Ministry of Education, Aysun Bayramli, 10th grade student of the Humanitarian subjects School-Lyceum and Fidan Garayeva, 8th grade student of Baku Secondary School No. 257 successfully represented our country in the science competition and won bronze medals. It should be noted that 205 students from 53 countries have competed at this year's Olympiad. This is the fourth time this year that our schoolchildren have participated in the science competition. TV lessons are started
Starting from March 11, TV lessons titled "Lesson time" are launched on "Medeniyyet" channel. TV lessons will last 5 days a week from 10 to 16 o'clock. TV lessons will cover all classes and brief explanations and instructions on lesson topics will be provided. Short video lessons will be provided on disciplines such as “Azerbaijani language”, “Mathematics”, “Understanding the World”, “Fine arts”, “Foreign language” in primary school and “Azerbaijani language”, “Mathematics”, “Foreign language”, “History”, "Geography", "Chemistry", "Physics", "Biology" in V-XI classes. The Ministry of Education advises students to pay attention to the timetable and study the lesson during the "Lesson Time". Students unable to watch "Lesson Time" on TV can get this opportunity through the electronic resources of the Ministry of Education. Let’s state that it is also possible to use video.edu.az electronic portals enriched with e-textbooks and video lessons to learn lessons on holidays. There are 256 electronic resources, including 232 electronic textbooks, 22 teaching aids and 2 extracurricular reading materials in the portal of the Ministry of Education www.e-derslik.edu.az. Currently, the number of textbooks enriched with video, graphics, audio and other multimedia tools is 28. 1621 video lessons have been posted on video.edu.az portal of the Ministry of Education. The number of such classes on the electronic portal is increased every month. The portal includes 3D animated videos, Khan Academy classes and video lessons having an assessment system. Classes are prepared in accordance with the national curriculum with the participation of local and foreign teachers.

The "Virtual School" project will be launched by the Ministry of Education on April 2. The project aims to ensure interactivity of the television lessons broadcast by the Ministry of Education and to increase the opportunities for distance teaching in general. The "Virtual School" project is being implemented within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and “Microsoft” corporation. Each pupil, having registered on the "Virtual School" portal, will be assigned to a class corresponding to his or her age, where he or she will perform homework prepared by teachers in accordance with the topics which are taught on weekly TV lessons. New tasks on various topics and subjects will be added to the portal every week. At the same time, the portal will provide an opportunity for online lessons for teachers. The students will be able to use the "Chat" function to communicate with their peers through video and audio. It should be noted that there is also a mobile version for the "Virtual School" portal. To use it, students must download the “Microsoft Teams” application from the AppStore and Google Play markets and register on the portal with a username and personal password. The Ministry of Education invites all students and their parents to register on the virtual.edu.az online portal starting from April 2. Students and parents can read the instructions to register. It should be noted that the Ministry of Education has started broadcasting TV lessons for students of general education institutions on March 11 on the "Culture" and "ARB Gunesh" channels. The TV lessons cover all classes and most subjects and are provided under a pre-announced schedule for both the Azerbaijani and Russian sections. The TV lessons are also broadcast live once a week, which allows subject teachers to answer students' questions on this or that topic directly from the film studio and provide the necessary additional explanations. The main purpose of broadcasting TV lessons on television channels which are broadcasted throughout the country is to provide accessibility for each student during the break in education. Azerbaijan has become a member of “World Skills Asia” organization
Azerbaijan is elected as a member of “World Skills Asia” organization, known as the Olympiad of vocational education personnel. The organization envisages the regional cooperation via World Skills competition at the Asian continent, the organization of competitions, as well as the exchange of possible experience in the development of knowledge and skills. “The World Skills Asia” competition is also known as the Olympiad of vocational education personnel. The main task of the competition is the development of skills and professions in the field of technology, as well as services, which are important for the world economy, the promotion of knowledge and skills in this field among member countries. In the biennial competitions, our country is expected to participate in the World Skills Asia competition, which will be held in November this year in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
