The Summer School organized by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Institute for Professional Development of Education Workers for school principals has ended. Held from September 5 to 11, the Summer School involved school principals recruited in the last two years. It featured different courses, workshops and lectures on self introduction, communication skills, team building, conflicts at school and their resolution, building school atmosphere, competency-based learning, social projects at school, evaluation of teachers` activities, school paperwork and accounting, and school fellowship project management. The Summer School also featured discussions and trainings on a range of topics involving experts. As part of the Summer School its participants visited Quba Genocide Memorial Complex. The participants of the Summer School received certificates.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has viewed additional classrooms built in school No. 58 in Khatai district, Baku. The head of state was informed that all conditions were created at the school to ensure quality teaching and training process. There are photo stands in the foyer of the school reflecting national leader Heydar Aliyev`s and President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to the development of education. Additional 20 classrooms, an informatics laboratory and three other laboratories were built for the school this year. The new classrooms are capable of holding up to 576 pupils. The head of state was informed that the school was built in 1926. The 420-seat school had an enrollment of 900 pupils before the reconstruction. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has viewed conditions at the newly overhauled school-lyceum No. 261 in Khatai district, Baku. Head of Baku City Executive Authority Hajibala Abutalibov informed the head of state of the repair and reconstruction work conducted here. He said the school, which had functioned since 1979, was for the first time repaired this year. The President was informed that first grade pupils would be presented with school bags and other supplies on the occasion of the start of the new academic year. The school, which occupies an area of more than 6600 square metres, has a total enrollment of 1176 pupils. All laboratories here are supplied with necessary equipment. A new outdoor sports ground was built for the school, its indoor gym was renovated and supplied with modern sports equipment. Applicants, who achieved the pass mark at a teachers` enrollment contest held on September 3-5, 2016, but did not qualify for the interview stage as their score was not enough to get the vacancy they chose, have been placed in jobs. A total of 4432 candidates chose vacancies and submitted applications through their personal accounts. 777 of the applicants advanced to the interview stage. The applicants have been notified – through their personal accounts – of the results of the placement, and date and venue of the interview stage. The applicants are requested to bring their ID card, diploma and its insert when they come for the interview.

“Evaluation in Education System and Improving Quality in Education” intensive and interactive training and education project  is underway. The project is part of cooperation between SABAH groups of the Ministry of Education and Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. Launched on September 3, the project is being held at Boulevard Hotel Baku. It aims to improve the quality of education through increasing public awareness of modern evaluation methods in education and conducting experience exchange. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Embassy of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan. The project involves 42 professors and teachers from 11 universities representing SABAH groups. Classes are given by professors of Paris-Sorbonne University, who use more than 130 interactive training methods.

Community.az portal will hold a school fair as part of “School communities” project from September 8 to 11, 2016. The fair will be organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Baku City Education Department, Yasamal District Municipality and National Encyclopedia Center. The fair will be held at the National Encyclopedia Center (Book Café). It will see participation of “Sharg-Garb” publishing house, “Saglam aile” medical center, “SOS” Children`s Villages, “Dars evi” education center, “Standard Insurance”, and “Antaris” school supplies company. The fair aims to offer parents quality and cheap school supplies, including textbooks, books, etc. The fair will be open from 10:00 to 19:00.

Applications for the transfer of students from one higher education institution (or specialty) to another within the country and abroad closed on September 5, 2016. Applications had been open at transfer.edu.az portal since August 10. A total of 1601 applications were received during this period. 239 students completed their applications by choosing the universities they want to be transferred to. 51 students withdrew their applications. 108 out of 188 students applied to be transferred from local universities, while 80 students wanted to be transferred from foreign higher education institutions. Under the Education Minister`s order on electronization of the process of transfer of students and their choice of specialty, the transfer of bachelor students from one university to another (or from one specialty to another) was conducted through transfer.edu.az portal of the Ministry of Education.

“ASAN Intellektual” development center was launched at “ASAN hayat” complex of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, which opened in Masalli on September 3 with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in attendance.  “ASAN Intellektual” provides all conditions for youth to spend their leisure time effectively. The center will host regional, countrywide and international events, competitions and quizzes. It will encourage intellectual development of the youth, and the improvement of their world view.  The center will also shape the youth`s knowledge and skills to help them build their careers. The center has a quiz club, library and interactive reading room, career and training center, chess club, debate and rhetoric club, and will also conduct creative courses for children. The quiz club will organize regular quiz championships and school leagues (What? Where? When? and others) in Masalli, Lankaran, Astara, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Yardimli, Lerik districts, regional and countrywide tournaments (Azerbaijani championship and Azerbaijani Cup). The library and interactive reading room offers new books in different languages and a state-of-the-art reading room to local residents. The library also plans to launch a project to digitize samples of classic and modern Azerbaijani literature. The library will also host meetings with famous writers and poets and presentations of new books. The career and training center will conduct courses and trainings on various topics for teachers (IT, Russian and English languages, accounting, etc.). It will also organize career days involving representatives of leading companies and give young people practical knowledge in a variety of areas. The center will invite foreign experts who will give lectures here. The career center will also give consultancy services to young people to help them with career choice and planning. The chess club will work to discover young talented chess players, support their development and popularize chess in the district. It will organize regular blitz tournaments and friendly games, as well as district, regional and countrywide competitions. The children`s creative clubs will offer courses on drawing, applied arts, local lore studies, environment, and knitting. The debate and rhetoric club will work to improve young people`s oratory skills, and their ability to easily hold debates on different topics, conduct presentations and deal with a wide range of information. The program aims to increase young people`s knowledge and set up an intelligent youth network. It also aims to improve young people`s capabilities and instill some values in them, including debate methodology, arguing, convincing, rhetoric, critical and creative thinking, networking, and social activity.
