SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
On April 15, Education Minister Misir Mardanov met with Thomson Reuters Country Manager for Central and Eastern Europe David Horky, Senior Manager for Africa and CIS countries Nader Girgis and Agency representative in Turkey Metin Tunc.
Education Minister warmly welcomed guests and talked about works done in recent years for the development of cooperation with the Thomson Reuters Agency. Having noted the existence of great interest in Azerbaijan in the Agency’s activity, the Minister underlined the importance of building cooperation with the Agency to develop a science in Azerbaijan and publish more research articles of Azeri scientists in the science magazines to make them well-known. Noting just one magazine published in Azerbaijan has entered into the Thomson Scientific Database the Minister highlighted the existence of high potential for the increase of their number, as well as citation indexes of Azeri scientists.
The Minister noted that about 400 science magazines have included in the list of editions recommended by Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of Azerbaijan Republic for the publication of research results of dissertations. Noting more research articles of Azeri scientists are published in international science magazines over recent years, the Minister underlined the importance of organizing international conferences jointly with the Agency. He shared his views regarding the receipt of information about international patents that will have a positive impact on the determination of future research directions, and thanked the guests for the importance attached by them to the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Thomson Reuters Country Manager for Central and Eastern Europe David Horky thanked the Minister for the warm welcome. He gave detailed information about the Agency’s activity and shared his views on cooperation with Azerbaijan. According to D. Horky, the Agency will take all necessary steps to publish more research articles of Azeri scientists and enter them into the Thomson Scientific Database.
Thomson Reuters Senior Manager for Africa and CIS countries Nader Girgis expressed their readiness to render full support to the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan. According to him, at first they are planning to organize relevant seminars for staff of universities, science magazines and scientists, and a strategy will be determined in accordance with the forthcoming goals.
Minister Mardanov said that the relevant documents are prepared jointly with some state agencies to receive permission for the use of Thomson Reuters Database. The Minister expressed his belief in the good results of cooperation as well as his hope that Azerbaijan will be the closest partner of the Agency in a short period of time.
