6 Azerbaijani secondary school students to compete in International Mathematical Olympiad
Six Azerbaijani secondary school students will participate in the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad due to be held in the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from July 7 to 14.
This edition of the Olympiad will feature 615 secondary school students from 116 countries. Azerbaijani secondary school students have claimed a total of 40 medals, including 8 silvers and 32 bronzes at the International Mathematical Olympiad so far. In 2017, Azerbaijani secondary school students ranked 42nd among 110 countries with 4 bronze medals.
Azerbaijani secondary school students` best achievement at the Olympiad was in 2010 when they grabbed 3 silvers and 2 bronzes to finish 28th in the overall medal table.
The first edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad was held in Romania in 1959, featuring 4 countries. Azerbaijani secondary school students have participated in the Olympiad since 1992.
